Happy Holidays

Wishing you all Happy Holidays.

Buddha has been with us for 10 months now.  We have seen him change in so many ways.  He went from being afraid to go for walks to demanding them.  Dreading a car ride to enjoying his travels.  He truly is special.  Enjoy the video of his last 10 months with us, touching our hearts.

Buddha and I hike South Mountain (http://phoenix.gov/parks/hikesoth.html) which is just a short walking distance from our home.  What a great place to hike and enjoy nature.  I remember when I first became Buddha's mum, he did not like to walk at all, and now he is so excited when he knows we are going.  Buddha is growing into a fine young adult.  Enjoy the video.

Buddha & Romeo

Aloha
Buddha and Romeo often come to work with us at our training facility.  On this day we were in route to the office, in the Arizona rush hour traffic, and I turned around to see what the dogs were doing only to see this peaceful sight.  If only we could be in this state during traffic jams.....

Buddha's friend Micah

Aloha everyone,
Wow Buddha has grown, he is still 29" at the shoulder, and now 100lbs.  I am told that he is not done growing.  I also know from experience that a  raw food dog grows slower.  I wonder how BIG will Buddha eventually be.  His ears are so TALL, still.  Good to hear with I guess.

Buddha also has a new friend, a cousin of his, Micah.  Micah is doing well with his family. Micah just graduated puppy socialization class with us at Team Canine. Here is a photo of Buddha kissing Micah after class.  Buddha is a little more reserved than Micah, personality wise.  Micah is a very social yet mellow personality.  A perfect fit for his family.  Buddha & Micah are in hopes of going together to visit disabled people, therefore both are brushing up on their manners.  We will keep you posted on their future adventures.

Everyone should have a Buddha.

Gold puppy, aka Traveller
Aloha everyone.  Been busy.  Buddha is still growing, he is a beautiful young man, so obedient and compliant.  He is the best.  We LOVE him so much.  Buddha does not like the summer heat that much, and prefers to be hanging low in the house on the cool stained concrete floors.  He still loves his EARLY morning walks though.  Cannot wait for it to cool off, and take him hiking in the mountains behind our house.  I think he is going to love it.

Our clients recently wanted a Buddha of their own, and after meeting with Buddha and talking to Tina.... we are all flying into New York to pick up Gold puppy, aka Traveller next week.  The family is very excited to get their pup and start working with him.  Their teen-age son is going to be the primary guardian.  I cannot wait to watch their relationship unfold.  Everyone should have a Buddha of their own.

Growth spurt update

Aloha
Sorry I have not posted in awhile.  I am so busy with work, medical school, family/friends/Buddha.  So here is an update on Buddha.  He is now 8 months old and over 90lbs, 28 inches at the shoulder and eating about 5 lbs of raw food a day.  Buddha gets looks where ever he goes.  At a local earthy bookstore, one of the employees calls Buddha her boyfriend.  She gets all excited when she sees him coming into the store.

My parents came to visit for my son's high school graduation, and my parents made an attempt to kidnap Buddha and take him back to Florida.... no worries, they were not successful.  Buddha is MY momma's boy....

Buddha just LOVES to wake me up at 5:00 am to go for a walk, and if I don't not get up fast enough, he gets very dramatic adding whimpers and pacing the bedroom floor.  When we first start our walk, he is all 'yippee skippee' and jumps on me.  He is so happy to be up, and out starting the day.  His two best friends are Smudge, a 5 year old maltese and Keanu, a 1.5 year old Cavalier King Charles.  Keanu & Buddha are BFFs.  Smudge the 10 lb maltese is the leader of the 3.

Buddha also prefers to lay on our sofa's instead of the dog beds, that are strewn across our house.  There are so many to chose from, yet somehow the sofa's are always his number one choice.  Gotta love him when you walk into the room and he looks up with his face full of innocence.  Come on, who could get upset with Buddha.

He is continually changing and coming out of his shell.  We are truly enjoying him.  He is turning into a great young man.  Cannot wait to see how he continues to change into an adult.  Buddha is the BEST.

Buddha has HOD

Buddha was diagnosed with pano and HOD (Hypertropic Osteodystrohy).  He is doing better now, due to a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, homeopathic pain relievers, a homeopathic detox, and Rescue Remedy.  HOD and pano are diagnosed via x-ray, there is a change in bone density that is obvious on the films.  HOD is also accompanied with fevers, and all of the symptoms can reoccur.  Needless to say, due to the integrity of the bones, Buddha is on low activity level, and a lot of rest.  He is showing marked improvements compared to last week.

TJ's Floppy Ear solution

This started out as a TJ hypothesis & experiment to see if it would work.  And so far I have had excellent results.  So here is the formula.... only works with a kinked ear and not a fully unstable ear.  With dog grooming clippers, carefully clip the hair of the inside ear.  Careful not to irritate the ear.  With an alcohol wipe, cleanse the inner ear to make a surface so that the tape will stick and let air dry.  Take a large sized nasal strip (nasal dilator that is used across the human's nose to open the upper airway) and place it vertically along the outer rim of the ear.  Be careful if it does come loose and falls off, the dog could eat it.

The reason why I chose to use nasal strips, is it is a brace that is light weight and usually unnoticed by the dog, and the brace inside the bandage is pulling toward the anterior (front) of the ear.  So the physics of how the nasal strip works actually helps to support and keep the ear upright.

Always monitor your dog, and keep the area clean and dry.  If you notice any redness or swelling carefully remove the nasal strip. Some dogs, like humans, may have a reaction to latex or adhesives used in tape.  Change regularly, if no problem.  Should not leave on for more than 12 hours, remove and then, let ear breath for 12 hours and replace. Also, when in doubt, consult your vet.  Here are some helpful photos of my gorgeous model Buddha, my Buddha-bear.  Feel free to contact us at 480-695-1491.  TJ & Buddha are not Vets, nor claim to be.... this is just something we are sharing that has worked for us.  Buddha's ear is not that floppy, so it is working for the kink in his ear, that could become something more than a kink without assistance.  Try at own risk.

Buddha's Mission

Buddha's mission should he choose to accept it.
Buddha, you are asked to mingle at gatherings and collect data regarding the guests.
Get plenty of rest, and whenever possible, make close contact with your humans.
Play and be silly, because we believe this is the elixir for longevity.
And most importantly, love and be loved.
Buddha, are you willing to accept.......... what do you think?

Buddha's 1st party!

Well, Buddha experienced his first party, my husband's 40th birthday bash.  We had just under 30 guests in our home to celebrate.  Buddha was great.  Our friends and family got to meet him.  And needless to say, 4 of them now want a shiloh of their own.   At about 10:00pm, Buddha and Keanu (the cavalier) put themselves to bed, they had enough of the party.

I am so happy with my Buddha.  His ears are standing TALL, too.  He is a great looking boy.
Peace & namaste~

A Buddha life

Buddha starts his morning along with the other 3 dogs, coming into the bed, to wake Daddy up. Buddha eats a mostly organic raw food diet and, if need be, has his own nutritionist and biochemist who can tweak his diet through a hair analysis.  Buddha and the other dogs also ONLY drink reverse osmosis water that is bottled ONLY in glass, so to prevent toxins from entering the water via plastic.  Buddha also goes on a leisurely walk around the neighborhood which is at the base of a mountain (South Mountain) with lots of palm trees, cactus and wildlife.  When he is at home, Buddha enjoys just relaxing, and being part of the family.  What a Buddha-ful life.

A Buddha-ful Day

Today Buddha and Romeo went with us to our neighborhood wash (an open field), they played and had a lot of fun.  After much fun at the wash, we brought Romeo home and we went for a car ride to REI where a LARGE crowd formed to meet Buddha.  One man even started snapping photos.  He was being such a good boy.  After REI we went out to eat, stopped at Whole Foods, and Hollywood Video.  Buddha is awesome out in public, he is always eager to please me.  He is definitely laid back.
Enjoy some of the footage from today's Buddha-ful Day.
Peace & namaste~

Buddha's ears

Buddha's ears after 4 days of taping... I took off the tape to give him a little break.  Those EARS are SOOOO BIG.  And he is SOOOO HANDSOME.  Hope he grows into those ears.

Team Canine's puppy socialization class

Buddha had a bath, and went to his puppy socialization class, taught by his Mum and Dad at Team Canine, Inc.  He had a lot of fun socializing with other puppies.  Buddha is not afraid, but sits, or rather lies down, and observes the pups at first.  Then he decides on whom he is going to visit with.  We are just loving his personality.  He is going to be a great adult someday.  And as the Cat Steven's song lyrics say... I LOVE MY DOG.  Enjoy the video.

Buddha & Keanu

Buddha had his ears taped, and the ear specialist says it looks promising, but no guarantees. Buddha and Keanu have become great friends, and play all day long together.  They are buddy's.
Enjoy the video of their play.

Buddha was in his first puppy socialization class.  He was a little unsure at first, but is starting to warm up to the other pups.  ;-0)

New York to Arizona

WOW, what a busy day of flying.  I arrived at Buffalo International Airport 1030 Saturday morning after taking the red-eye from Phoenix.  As I was going down the escalator, there was Buddha and Tina and an entourage of welcomers.  Buddha was so quiet and laid back.  He went through security and was patted down, he did  not mind at all.  On the flight, he took up so much room that the man next to me, condensed his space to give Buddha more room.  We was AMAZING on his 2 flights, on the shuttle bus, and in the airports.

Buddha follows me everywhere.  A true shadow.  He is making friends with my 1yo Cavalier named Keanu, 5yo maltese mix Smudge, 11yo hound mix Romeo an our son's cat Sinbad.

Buddha had his first bath.  And even went to Brad's book signing and engaged with a few dogs and met a lot of people.

Buddha is seeing my vet tomorrow for a check up and to meet Dr. Bracken.  I know Buddha will just love the kind-heartedness of Dr. B.  I will let you know how he does.

Handsome baby boy.

Aloha
Tina just sent me these beautiful photos of Buddha.  Wow, he looks like a BIG boy.  I love his coloring.  I hope I am right, he looks like a big silly boy. I am hoping for mellow, and loves EVERYTHING.  Now I am more anxious with anticipation to meet him.  I hope he likes receiving HUGS ;-)

Can you believe no one wanted him because of his floppy ears....

Stay tuned for future updates.
Peace & namaste~

Anxiously awaiting.

Aloha,
My name is Jade (TJ). I am anxiously awaiting my trip to New York next weekend to pick up a puppy from Tina. His name is currently Mr. B, aka Biscuit. I am going to, with no disrespect to the original name of Biscuit, change the name to Buddha.

I am eager to begin the journey of hopeful therapy/service (I a have been diagnosed with severe asthma) work. But most of all, being my best friend and confidant. Starting my Master's program in Oriental Medicine (LAc) in May, and ultimately completing a Doctor of Oriental Medicine degree (OMD), it is my hope to have Buddha as part of my medical practice to lessen the anxieties of acupuncture needles with my human patients. So wherever I go, Buddha goes.

I have had german shepherds in the past, both from Germany and Czech. Although I did train and compete in personal protection trials, I no longer want the drives, reactivity and aggressions that are part of that package. I am so glad the I found the ISSR (International Shiloh Shepherd Registry) Shiloh Shepherd, the looks and intelligence of the shepherd but minus the reactive traits seen currently in the GSD. And thanks to the numerous ISSR shiloh people that I have spoken with, asking many, many questions to... to make sure that this is a good match for me. Especially, a BIG thanks (Mahalo nui loa) to Tina, the MaShiloh.

I cannot wait to meet and get to know my BUDDHA.
